This recipe is an experience for any individual, its type of unique and really distinct from todays baking, today all you require to do is go to the market place and choose one thing off of the shelf, place it in the microwave and you have it.
Well Im old style when it is anything Im going to eat and appreciate, I want to have hands on and do it the old way.
OK enough jabber lets get on with the recipe so we can enjoy it, don't forget your ingredients really should be space temperature or close to it.
Ingredients for dough:
5 cups unsifted flour
1 cup sugar
four teaspoons baing powder
two teaspoons baking soda
pinch of salt
pound butter softened
2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
4 egg yolks
pint sour cream
1 teaspoons vanilla
Ingredients for filling:
two cups ground walnuts
cup sugar for nuts
jam or lekvar or whatever you like
Sift with each other 5 cups flour, 1 cup sugar, four teaspoons baking powder, 2 teaspoons baking soda.
Add the butter, shortening, 4 egg yolks, pint sour cream, 1 teaspoons vanilla and of course the pinch of salt.
Mix all of these ingredients in your processor or mixer.
Divide dough into 3 parts, roll out the initial piece and place it onto a 10 inch x 15 inch cookie sheet.
Mix with each other:
two cups ground walnuts
cup sugar for nuts
jam or lekvar or whatever you like
Spread some of this mixture onto the initial layer of dough, then roll out an additional piece of dough and spot it on top of the filling, place some much more of the filling on top of the second layer of dough, now with the third piece of dough roll it out and develop a lattice leading on your creation.
Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 40 to 45 minutes, cool and cut.
